TeamViewer

TeamViewer is an application designed for customer support and remote system management for organisations. It allow users to take control of another user's computer (with their consent of course) over the Internet.

In Combat Arms though, it has another use...

Combat Arms players may ask other players (usually ones that have applied to a clan or are doing well mid-game) for a TeamView session. The purpose of this request is to check the "legitimacy" of the player.

A Combat Arms TeamView session is designed to take control of the player's computer and inspect it for game hacking activities. The inspector may use manual searching techniques such as searching common keywords in browser history, Windows Prefetch, and deleted files or use programs specifically designed to detect hacking / Windows activity such as USB activity. If the player passes set criteria, then the player may be let into the clan.

Using TeamView for catching hackers is not isolated to Combat Arms and is used in many other online games where hacking is prevalent.

Letting another person that you do not know personally snoop around your computer is never a good idea. Personal information may be stumbled upon / harvested by the session controller, undesirable software may be installed and other security issues may arise.

Question of the Post
If a random player asks you for a teamview, do you accept?
What is your view on the above use of TeamViewer?

Did you know?
