Major Game and Web Service Upgrades

On Sunday, December 6th, 2009 Nexon performed major game and web service upgrades "to handle the current and future traffic of players to our website and games". This maintenance went for 24 hours and none of the Nexon America services could be accessible.

News was brought to players through each game's Facebook fan page, keeping players informed of the progress that they were making.

After the maintenance was complete players were complaining that they were experiencing latency problems. Nexon brought the games back down in order to fix this.

The "major" part of this upgrade is debatable. It definitely fixed the web service problem where the server would experience problems serving the page to you. However, it was only a few months later that the forums went into meltdown and viewing any thread would cause the dreaded "Oops!" error and the forums were generally slow. The only way to communicate was to via thread titles when creating new threads (oh, and the Xat chatbox).

Players still cry about lag, whether that be latency-induced lag or framerate lag.

Question of the Post
Has lag ever been an advantage to you?
Do you really think it's true that lag gets worse after maintenance?
