The Public Perception

Nexon's marketing is without-a-doubt very effective. Over 4 million accounts and growing, Combat Arms does not seem like its population will go backwards anytime soon. However, one of the more powerful marketing tactics is free - word-of-mouth. The Java Gaming Experts practically created the second most subscribed MMORPG out of this tactic.

Word-of-mouth is very powerful. When someone reads a forum thread on a gaming forum about Combat Arms, the only information that they're going to trust is the user opinions posted in that thread. More often than not, the game is put in a negative light.

Negative light

The most complained-about aspect of the game is hackers and the lack of action against them. This is especially apparent to a new player that jumps in the recruit server, Jackson, and is bombarded by not players who are inexperienced, but by hackers.

I played casually today and within 1 minute experienced quite a few hackers

Not all of the comments you read on the Internet are bad though...

$20 for a game "where cheaters run rampant".
Combat Arms - a tad more exciting than online golf.

...and not all the opinions are quite informed...

Although most of these things can be seen on the official forums nowadays too.

Question of the Post
In one word, how would you describe Combat Arms?

Did you know?
You can check when HackShield last updated by checking the Date Modified date of the 3N.mhe file in the Combat Arms\HShield folder.
