Unlike many other games, Combat Arms allows soldiers to rent their weapons for specific durations - 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, permanent and other durations obtained randomly from the Weapons Renewal Kit.
A poll on the official Combat Arms America homepage ran from the 12th of February to the 24th of the same month, silently, without any announcement on the homepage that its result would introduce the permanent weapons business model. The poll asked the question "If a permanent option was made available for your favorite weapon, would you:"
It gave the choices Purchase it and rest easy knowing you always had it at your disposal, but continue to try other interesting weapons. (45%)
Continue purchasing it for limited durations, permanent weapons are out of your price range. (23%)
Purchase it and use it exclusively, no more trying out different guns for you! (11%)
Consider purchasing the permanent option, but wait to see if something better came along (20%)
About a day later Nexon introduced the permanent duration for all NX Standard weapons. This was odd considering that only a few months prior, Nexon had a sale of "Limited Edition" NX weapons available for permanent duration for only one week.
Less than a year since permanent weapons were introduced, on November 10th Nexon announced that "Permanent Weapons are Retiring!", causing confusion and anger among players as they thought the permanent duration was no longer an option for all weapons. Clarification was shortly given that only a select few weapons would have their permanent durations made unavailable and some weapons will still be available for permanent duration.
The November edition of the State of the Game Address announced that all new weapons introduced into the game will only have a permanent duration for the following two weeks that they are introduced. This concept was first introduced in the November Supply Drop for the M1866 sniper rifle. General G stated that this was in part a business decision but also to aid in creating weapon diversity in the game despite Nexon just releasing a variant of the G36E.
Only time will tell if this version of their business model will succeed.
