Just an Update - On Hiatus

Not that this blog is particularly popular or anything but for anyone who stumbles upon this blog... well, it's not being updated anymore. Partly because university work takes up quite a lot of my time and that restricts my CA usage which in turn makes my interest in the game wane too.

Sometimes I feel like I should "reboot" the blog so-to-speak and and make it more into a website than a blog if anyone would be interested? I'm not active on the forums either and signatures aren't allowed on their anyway so not many people know about this blog in the first place.

Has much changed in the game that's worth mentioning?

The Transport Locker & Kalika Case

The Transport Locker was a precursor to the Kalika and MYST-Alphabet cases and was released on the 1st of December 2010, and was announced to be retired on August 19th 2011.

The Kalika Case is a variant of the Transport Locker and is only available during special events. It first saw the light of day on the 20th of December 2010 after Kalika, the community manager, visited Japan for last year's winter holidays and learned about fukubukuro, the Japanese New Year's Sales tradition...

Strike a Pose

Nexon promotes Combat Arms heavily and uses a lot of graphics since they're not advertising a text-based game.

Combat Arms Command has a hard time getting intel from the battlefield and the Screenshot Contest of 2008/2009 started, but they also have a hard time getting the soldiers to pose for photo shoots when they try to recruit new trainees to the battlefield. I hate introductions.

The New Nexon Portal

While this update isn't a part of Combat Arms, you need a Nexon Passport to play so the new Nexon portal is sorta relevant to our interests.

The Nexon portal is the official nexon.net website, a place where you charge NX, change your details and read the Nexon News... and it recently got a relaunch.

The World Map

The Warzone Guide in North America was recently updated to accommodate the ever-growing number of maps we have to battle in Combat Arms. It has replaced the old map of the world which placed each Operation in some place in the real world.

The Life of a Mercenary

Once upon a time this game had a storyline. It still does but usually only as an excuse to fight more of the Infected. The mercenaries used to have a detailed biography on how they ended up fighting UAF vs Warcorp but Nexon has all but abandoned these details.

The Combat Arms Survey

On the 19th April 2010, Nexon released a survey asking several questions on their game, Combat Arms. It asked what players most wanted in updates, what their favourite map is, what their least favourite map was, amongst others.

There was also a question which had a dropdown box containing many unreleased guns...

Accolades Throughout the Ages

Accolades are a big part of Combat Arms and provide players with motivation and exhilaration. They have had an interesting history and this article will document it.

Acronyms and Abbreviations

There's no doubt about it - the Combat Arms community is a great one. There are many people that would disagree but with over 4 million enlisted it sure has a lot of people. Each person has a unique opinion and the Nexon forums allow people to broadcast that opinion. Petitions are a common way to gauge support for a specific suggestion and with the success of Fight Against Auto Turrets had, the acronym / abbreviation bandwagon began...

Operation: Desert Fox is this month's attraction in Combat Arms and is suspected to be the successor to Operation: Desert Thunder. The following images are screenshots of the map using Nexon's map maker.

This article will deal with the scourge of Combat Arms - hacking.

Unreleased Mercenaries

There is one update that is 3 years overdue from Nexon Korea that no other version has yet obtained. Make that two, ...there is the user-uploaded clan emblem feature but we're probably never going to get that... No, the update I'm talking about is two mercenaries yet to be released.

Codename: Winchester and a guy that likes the '70s.

Sand Hog Concept Art

I've featured the concept art of the other maps, so I might as well make it complete and post that Nexon has posted the Sand Hog concept art on their Facebook.

I'm a month late, but "better late than never", as inspired by Nexon.

Combat Arms Merchandise (Last Updated 30/09/10)

Although Nexon does not have an official store to purchase merchandise from, they have many items given out as prizes from various competitions over the years. From figurines to lighters they are suitable for all ages.

This blog post will go through the Combat Arms merchandise awarded as prizes.

Suggestions Suggested By Customers

It may seem that Nexon doesn't listen or doesn't care about their customers and rightly so. While their ticketing system is at times abysmal and some of their decisions are misguided, it is not completely true that Nexon ignores the bad things that plague the game.

Proof of this is shown by the following list which lists (as lists usually do) the suggestions read by, considered by, drafted by, designed by, programmed by, and implemented by Nexon from their forums.

Spectator Mode

It is known to all players that users can be banned for "Ingame GM Action". What this means that the player was banned on-the-spot by a spectating Game Master. Their judgement isn't always correct, with the Nexon forums having posts of "unfair" bannings being common... ColDroop but GMs are only human and they work for Nexon.

Onto the title though, have you ever wondered what it looks like?

The YouTube Machinima Contest

The YouTube Machinima Contest first opened to the public on September 3rd 2009. Machinima, (derived from machine and cinema) is filmmaking created through the real-time recording of computer games, virtual worlds or any already-existing 3D digital environment or virtual world - in this case, Combat Arms.

The Twist: Combat Arms Command has provided the beginning and the end of the story for you. It is up to you to figure out how the story transpires from beginning to end.
